For families moving to Milton, schools are often the single biggest factor in choosing a neighbourhood. The good news: Milton is in the Halton District School Board and Halton Catholic District School Board — both consistently ranked among Ontario's best. But not every neighbourhood has the same school access, and walk zones matter. Here's the breakdown.

The Halton Advantage

Before diving into specific schools, it's worth understanding why Halton Region schools are so highly regarded. Halton consistently ranks in the top tier of Ontario school boards for EQAO test scores, graduation rates, and post-secondary placement. The school infrastructure in Milton specifically benefits from the town's rapid growth — many schools are modern, well-funded facilities built in the last 10–20 years.

Top-Ranked Schools by Neighbourhood

Beaty: Home to Guardian Angels Catholic Elementary School, one of the highest-rated schools in all of Milton. This is a major reason why Beaty is one of the most popular family neighbourhoods. The school consistently performs well in provincial assessments and has strong community involvement.

Timberlea: Holy Rosary Catholic Elementary School is the standout here — one of the area's top-ranked schools with a long track record of academic excellence. Timberlea also has two public and two Catholic elementary schools within the neighbourhood, giving families options.

Coates: The key draw here is French Immersion. Ecole Elementaire du Chene offers French Immersion programming, making Coates the neighbourhood of choice for bilingual families. This is a significant differentiator — if French Immersion is important to your family, Coates should be at the top of your list.

Harrison: Tiger Jeet Singh Public School and Chris Hadfield Public School serve this area — both newer schools with modern facilities, strong programming, and good reputations. St. Scholastica Catholic Elementary School is also nearby.

Clarke: Served by Irma Coulson Public School, Anne J. MacArthur Public School, and Guardian Angels Catholic School. Multiple quality options within walking distance for most homes in the neighbourhood.

Willmott: Anne J. MacArthur Public School and Bishop Reding Catholic Secondary School anchor this neighbourhood. The secondary school is particularly well-regarded for its academic and extracurricular programming.

Secondary Schools

Milton currently has several secondary schools serving the growing population:

Craig Kielburger Secondary School — one of Milton's newer public high schools with modern facilities and strong academic programs.

Milton District High School — the original Milton high school, centrally located, with a long history and strong community ties.

Bishop Paul Francis Reding Catholic Secondary School — the main Catholic secondary school, well-regarded for academics and athletics.

Jean Vanier Catholic Secondary School — serving the newer south Milton communities including Ford and Bowes.

Things to Know Before You Buy

Walk zones change. As Milton grows and new schools open, the Halton school boards periodically adjust boundaries. Always verify the current walk zone for a specific address before making a purchase decision — don't assume based on neighbourhood alone.

New schools are being built. South Milton (Ford, Bowes, Walker) is still developing, which means some students may be bused to established schools until new facilities are completed. If walking to school is a priority, established neighbourhoods like Beaty, Clarke, and Timberlea are safer bets.

Before and after school care. Most Milton elementary schools have before and after school programs, but availability varies. Check directly with the school if this is important for your family's schedule.
