Milton High Schools Guide (2026): Every Secondary School Compared

If you're buying in Milton with kids who are (or soon will be) in high school, the secondary school your address is zoned for matters as much as the house. Milton now has six public and Catholic high schools, and they differ a lot in size, programs, and which neighbourhoods they serve.

Public High Schools (Halton District School Board)

Milton District High School

Milton's original high school, centrally located and operating at its current site since 1967. The HDSB reported a preliminary enrolment of about 1,535 students for 2024–25. It's a good fit for families in the older, central parts of town who want a school with deep community roots and a long list of clubs and teams.

Craig Kielburger Secondary School

Opened in 2012 on Ferguson Drive in east Milton, Craig Kielburger is one of Milton's biggest high schools, with enrolment of over 2,000. Its big draw is programming: it offers English, French Immersion, ESL, and the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. If French Immersion or IB is on your list, this is the school to know about, and its French Immersion catchment is broader than its English one.

Elsie MacGill Secondary School

Milton's newest public high school, at 1410 Bronte Street South in southwest Milton. It opened in the 2021–22 school year with modern facilities, including air conditioning and a triple gym. It's home to the regional I-STEM program (Innovation, Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), plus Specialist High Skills Major programs in areas like Health & Fitness Leadership and Sustainable Energy Engineering. Enrolment was about 1,050 in 2024–25.

Catholic High Schools (Halton Catholic District School Board)

Bishop Paul Francis Reding Catholic Secondary School

Founded in 1986 in the Dempsey area, Bishop Reding is Milton's longest-running Catholic high school and its top performer on the Fraser Institute's most recent secondary rankings, scoring 8.2 out of 10 and placing 65th of 747 Ontario high schools. It generally serves the older, northeastern parts of Milton.

St. Francis Xavier Catholic Secondary School

Opened in 2013 as Jean Vanier Catholic Secondary School and renamed in 2020. Located on Bronte Street South, it's one of the largest high schools in Milton, with enrolment of around 2,400. It serves much of south and west Milton.

St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Secondary School

Opened in September 2021 on Kennedy Circle in southwest Milton, St. Kateri was built to handle growth in Milton's newest neighbourhoods. Newer facilities and a growing community make it a strong option for families in the southwest.

More Schools Are Coming

Milton is still growing fast, and the school boards are building to keep up. The Halton Catholic District School Board has received $81.4 million in provincial funding for a new Britannia Catholic Secondary School, planned for about 1,500 students. As new schools open, boundaries shift, so a home's assigned high school today may not be the same in five years.

Things to Know Before You Buy

Check the address, not the neighbourhood. School boundaries in Milton don't line up neatly with neighbourhood names. Always confirm the assigned schools for a specific address using the HDSB and HCDSB school locator tools before you firm up an offer.

Programs can matter more than scores. A school's Fraser score is one data point. If your child wants French Immersion, IB, or a STEM focus, the program may matter more than a small difference in rankings.

Watch for portables and busing. Fast-growing areas can mean portables and longer bus rides until new schools open. Ask about current enrolment and any planned boundary reviews.
